Vintage Report 2010

After excellent spring rains in September 2009, early signs were very promising for the 2010 vintage. However things became a little bit interesting when the Barossa and the rest of South Australia sweltered through a heat wave in mid-November when temperatures jumped from spring 20s straight to 40C.

In the vineyard, some varieties and even some rows of different varieties handled this better than others, largely dependent on where they were in the flowering and fruit setting process. The result was that less fruit was set on the vines so total fruit production was lower than average for us.

After this tumultuous start to the vintage, the remainder was almost perfect, a little bit of rain in December, and consistent warm ripening conditions. The lighter load contributed to slightly earlier vintage and we were all picked by mid March.

6 months out from this point, our new whites are almost ready for release and the Shiraz and our new Duriff are in barrel are looking fantastic, rich and fruit driven!
