In 1837, Johannes Menge was sent to survey the ranges north of the fledgling city of Adelaide. He reported, “I am certain we shall see vineyards and orchards throughout all of this…”. Many waves of Prussian immigrants followed on the strength of Menge’s words and established the Barossa villages of Lyndoch, Bethany, Light Pass, Siegersdorf and Vine Vale.

These prussian settlers were known as the ‘Barossa Deutsche’. They were hard working farmers and capable artisans, who brought old world tradition and skills to new world challenges, developing a unique language, lifestyle and culture. While Barossa Deutsche is no longer spoken in the streets of the Barossa, this Shiraz honours our ‘Barossa Deutsche’ heritage.

Using only fruit from the gnarled old vines of our Vine Vale vineyard, the 2015 Vintage was matured for 2 years in a blend of French and American oak. Blackberries, stewed plums and mocha are apparent on the nose, backed-up on the palate by pepper spice and fine grainy tannins. Elegant, full bodied and smooth, this wine is beautifully consistent with earlier vintages and luscious example of a Barossa Shiraz.
